L'ouvrier en mécanique générale est un militaire du rang chargé d'assurer la mise en oeuvre, l'entretien et la remise en état des équipements mécaniques d'une base aérienne. Il exerce au sein d'une unité technique ou logistique, sous la supervision de techniciens ou de sous-officiers. Il intervient sur une large gamme de matériels : véhicules aéroportuaires, systèmes d'arrêt pour aéronefs, groupes électrogènes et équipements mécaniques associés.
